Escola D. Manuel is a secondary school located in Beja, the main town in the south region of Portugal called Baixo Alentejo. The school was created in 1949 and the present building was built in 1961. In 2008 the school was rebuilt under a Government Program called Parquescolar.

Originally the school was created as a Commercial and Industrial School oriented mainly to vocational courses in the areas of Mechanics, Electricity as well as Textiles and Accountability. From this time the school retains a lot of patrimony, especially pedagogical equipment and materials as maps, instruments and tools used in different subjects like History, Geography and Natural Sciences. It also preserves materials made by students namely textile and metal artifacts. Some of this materials and artifacts are displayed in permanent exhibitions but most is kept in different places.

Presently the school keeps its vocational tradition alive along with regular secondary school, with students from the 7th up to the 12th grade. Plus Escola D. Manuel I also hosts an Adult Learning Center called Centro Qualifica. As whole the school itself has around 900 students. For more detailed information, please check here
